Committee Member Code of Conduct

This code of conduct binds both committee and non-committee members of the Belmont PTA (Belmont HomeSchool Association, BHSA). These guidelines describe the basic expectations for behaviour and the importance for all members to conduct themselves professionally and ethically, that will run alongside our constitution, which is a legally binding document. 

In order for the Belmont PTA (BHSA) to function successfully it is essential that all members agree to follow these guidelines while acting in association with the Belmont PTA (BHSA).

 

Code of Conduct

  • All work done on behalf of the Belmont PTA (BHSA) is voluntary and is done for no personal gain
  • All members will act in the best interest of the Belmont PTA (BHSA) and the school
  • We as a Committee have the duty of representing our Belmont School Community as appropriate as possible ensuring all parents / carers are allowed to access our service without discrimination or without financial burden 
  • All members will be encouraged to make relevant and positive contributions to meetings they attend. 
  • We as the committee are responsible to familiarise ourselves with all the Belmont PTA (BHSA) Policies and Guidance at the beginning of each new academic year. If needed we will also agree together, as a committee, to modify any policies
  • All members have the right to be heard and must respect each other’s opinions
  • We will not tolerate any abusive, derogatory, racial, sexist or any other such behaviour or language that might offend any person. We as a Committee have the right to follow protocols of that person or persons to no longer represent the Belmont PTA (BHSA) 
  • All members have the right to communicate together responsibly. Any matters relating to the school, should be directed to the school office
  • Any items emailed through to the Belmont PTA (BHSA) email address may not be answered immediately. All committee members work on a voluntary basis, in their free time and may not be able to address issues straight away. 
  • Any important / urgent queries raised will need to be discussed and added to the next meeting agenda. For further information on complaint handling please read the Belmont PTA (BHSA) Complaints Policy
  • The committee will work to the rules stated in the constitution. As per the constitution, decisions will be made by a majority vote of the elected committee meeting. The committee may from time to time consult with the wider membership, however the committee’s decision is final
  • All members of the committee must ensure that any material or discussion of a confidential nature, especially matters concerning individual staff, pupils or parents / guardians, is confined to the meeting,attended only by elected committee members. Names will be blacked out of the meeting minutes, if necessary.
  • All members must respect the School and personal property
  • The committee should be made aware of any conflict of interest and the person involved should withdraw from any discussion pertaining to the subject
  • All paperwork and assets relating to the Belmont PTA (BHSA) are property of the Belmont PTA (BHSA) and not that of the individual. When leaving the Belmont PTA (BHSA) a member should return any relevant paperwork or asset to the Belmont PTA (BHSA) Committee

Please note that it is important for all members, old and new, to familiarise themselves with all the Belmont PTA (BHSA) policies relating to how and what procedures to abide by when representing the Belmont PTA (BHSA).
